What is Hydrogen Fuel and How Hydrogen Fuel Works – How it Can Change Energy Problem
The initiative for hydrogen fuel cells as a source of energy use comes from the government to US-based scientists and environmentalists. The hydrogen fuel cell technology in a simple chemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen based, the reaction produces energy. The resulting energy can flow as a car produces only water, no vapors.
The State of California (USA) was the first to use hydrogen cars are currently running a few hundred cars in California. The cars have space for the storage of hydrogen as a gas or liquid converts hydrogen into electricity for the motor with a fuel cell. This project is still in its infancy, with more research of the technology is robust and economically viable.
Advantages of hydrogen as a fuel
The main advantage of using hydrogen as fuel emissions is that it consists of water.
Unlike other popular fuel for energy production to carbon dioxide (CO2) is used.
With the little tailpipe pollution hydrogen as a fuel is less polluting than other fuels.
Research has shown that when hydrogen is used in internal combustion engine powered by fuel cells, it increases the efficiency of the vehicle.
The drawbacks of hydrogen as a fuel
The cost of operating a fuel cell vehicle based high. It takes a lot of energy to liquefy the fuel.
There is a need for compressed hydrogen gas, the drive for a certain period of time longer. Current research is underway to make it economically viable.
Once the technology is mature and the means of obtaining fuel are economically viable and commercially, hydrogen as fuel and the cable can be made with the people and car manufacturers.
I think in the near future we will see the dependency source of alternative fuels and one of them will be hydrogen as a fuel. Governments and private industries pumping much money into research for clean, safe and environmentally friendly “hydrogen technology”.
Already car manufacturers started to build pilot projects to get a car with hydrogen fuel cells. Honda has set its goals for 2008, while GM and Mercedes period around 2010. Further depends on the initial performance of the car when the technology is easy to use and the cost per car is in the budget people and the hydrogen could become an alternative fuel.
